A woman with her two children reportedly committed suicide by taking poison at Sadar upazila in Brahmanbaria on Wednesday.
The incident took place around 11 am at Ghatura Sarkar Bari under the upazila.
The dead were Sharmin Akter, 24, wife of Ashraf Mia, of that area, her two daughters Rawza, 5, and Naureen , 3.
Brahmanbaria General Hospital Emergency Department Doctor Riaz Uddin Mitul said the woman was first brought to the emergency department at the hospital in the condition of consuming poison. She was admitted to the medicine ward. Then the two children were also brought but they were found dead. After some time, the mother also died while undergoing treatment there.
The hospital staff said that the woman’s husband Ashraf came to the hospital with his wife and two children. Relatives, who were with him, said that his wife poisoned her two children and poisoned herself. However, they could not say why it happened. After the death of the three was confirmed, the others including the husband fled from the hospital.
Brahmanbaria Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Tanvir Ahmad said police were sent to the spot on information. The cause of the suicide was not immediately known. It is under investigation, he added.
