Sports Desk:
The Bangladesh team is playing a two-match Test series against Pakistan on their soil. All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is in the first Test squad of the series. However, a murder case was filed against him amid the test.
Now the question is being raised whether Shakib, accused in the murder case, can play cricket or not. In such a situation, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has not decided its stance regarding him yet.
However, BCB’s new president Faruk Ahmed said that the final decision will be taken after the ongoing test is over.
“You (journalist) know that there is a case. The case has been FIR, investigation will be done after FIR. Then the case will go in one direction. As the Test match is going on right now, tomorrow is the fifth day of the match. We have not thought of taking any stance at this time. I thought we would sit down and make a decision after tomorrow’s match,” said Faruk Ahmed.
Although the final report has not been submitted, Shakib is now “an accused in the murder case”. Faruk Ahmed was also asked whether there are any restrictions on such persons by ICC or BCB.
“This is a common thing. When the FIR is filed, no charge is framed against it. It is very difficult to decide before this. A few days ago, there was a huge riot, many lives were lost. We still have compassion, but have not forgotten. The test match is going on right now. BCB’s relationship with Shakib as a player and employee. We can decide after tomorrow,” said the BCB President.
Shakib is in the Rawalpindi Test XI. He is also batting and bowling. When asked if there is any obstacle in his game at the moment, Faruk said that there is no obstacle to play now. We can’t withdraw him in the middle of the match.
