Cousin kills her after failing to rape

The Detective Branch (DB) of police has unraveled the mystery of the sensational murder of seven-year-old Chhoya Moni in Raiganj upazila of Sirajganj district.

Md. Monirul Islam Jihad, also cousin of the victim was arrested in this connection.

On Saturday (August 23) afternoon, the arrested accused gave a confessional statement to Senior Judicial Magistrate Md. Omar Farooq, Judge of Raiganj Amli (administrative) Court.

Md. Monirul Islam Jihad is the son of Md. Zillur Rahman of Haor village in Ullapara upazila. The deceased Chhoya Moni is the daughter of Sumon Sheikh of Mirer Deulmura village in Pangasi union of Raiganj upazila.

Nazmul Haque Ratan, Sub-Inspector (SI) of the Detective Branch (DB) of Police in Sirajganj confirmed the matter and said that, Monirul Islam Jihad, the sole accused in the murder case, was arrested from Gazipur Chowrasta intersection at around 10:30 am on Saturday.

During the preliminary interrogation after the arrest, Jihad confessed to the murder and gave a chilling account of the incident.

He said that, on Wednesday (August 20) at around 9:00 am, he tried to rape his cousin (sister) Chhoya Moni on her way back from the Madrasa. At that time, Chhoya Moni warned that she would tell her parents about the incidents that happened to her. Then, he (Jihad) killed her by crashing her against the wall of the neighbor’s abandoned toilet. Then, he left the body in the toilet and fled the scene.

SI Nazmul said, after the murder, Jihad went home and played a drama of searching for Chhoya Moni with others. He also announced about her missing through loud speaker of the local mosque. After receiving the news that the child’s body was recovered from the toilet, he fled.

Police said, Jihad’s blood-stained shirt and lungi were recovered from the scene.

Earlier on Wednesday (August 20) afternoon, the bloody body of Chhoya Moni was recovered from the neighbor’s broken and abandoned toilet. In this incident, the child’s grandmother Mst Firoza Begum filed a case with Raiganj Police Station against the unknown accused.
