National polls must be held in February: Tuku

BNP standing committee member and former state minister for power Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku said that, the parliamentary elections must be held in February. The Chief Advisor has already made it clear that he wants to complete the elections by February. BNP’s responsibility is to cooperate in maintaining the law and order situation in Bangladesh, so that free, fair and accountable elections are held.
The BNP leader came up with the remarks, while addressing the BNP’s pre-rally gathering at the Islamia College ground in Sirajganj town on Monday afternoon marking to the 47th founding anniversary of the party.
He also said, from today, no BNP leader or activist will be able to get involved in any kind of conflict in the neighborhood. If you want elections, then there will be no conflict in any neighborhood. Law and order situation must be maintained in every field of the political arena. This is what the leaders and activists will have to take an oath on today.
BNP leaders and activists will have to take responsibility to ensure law and order situation so that the Durga Puja, largest festival of the Hindu community, is held smoothly in the future. Everyone will have to work with responsibility. We have promised the chief advisor – we have taken this responsibility, he added.
District BNP President Rumana Mahmud presided over the event, while District BNP General Secretary Saidur Rahman Bachchu, Organizing Secretary Mirza Mostofa Zaman, Joint Secretary Shri Amar Krishna Das and VP Shamim among others spoke on the occasion. After the rally, a big procession led by Tuku marched the main streets in the town.
It is to be mentioned that, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) celebrated its 47th founding anniversary across the country including Sirajganj with various programmes.
On September 1, 1978, late president Ziaur Rahman founded the party with a 19-point programme to build a self-reliant Bangladesh.
BNP and its associate bodies have taken up various programmes, including rallies and discussions, to mark the day in districts.
