Md Nayeemul Islam Khan, the emeritus editor of the Bangla daily, Amader Notun Shomoy, has been appointed as the new press secretary to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification in this regard on Thursday and said Nayeemul’s contractual appointment (in the rank of secretary) would come into effect from the day of his joining.

With a fixed salary of Tk78,000 and other government benefits, he would perform his duty for the duration of the prime minister’s tenure or as per her satisfaction, read the notification.

On 28 May, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) sent a note to the Ministry of Public Administration for issuing a notification over his appointment.

In the latest development, the PMO on 7 June sent a note to the foreign ministry mentioning that Nayeemul Islam would accompany the prime minister during her 8-10 June India visit and asked the ministry to take necessary measures accordingly.
