TDS Desk:
The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission has set a price for furnace oil for the first time, resulting in an immediate reduction of nearly BDT 16 per litre for the industrial fuel.
BERC fixed the price at BDT 70.10 per litre, effective from midnight on Sunday, according to a press release. The fuel had been selling at BDT 86 per litre prior to the regulatory intervention.
The decision follows a proposal submitted by state-owned Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) on January 20, 2024, seeking a revision of furnace oil prices. Subsequently, the country’s state-owned oil marketing companies filed requests to increase their marketing and transportation charges, with submissions between May and July 2025.
BERC held a public hearing on the proposals on January 29 this year, allowing interested parties until February 3 to submit written opinions. The commission said it set the new price after reviewing all proposals and feedback.
