Mohammad Ahnaf (17), nephew of Bangladesh national cricketer Mushfiqur Rahim, was found dead at Samiti Para beach in Cox’s Bazar on Monday morning. His body was recovered around 7:30 am, 17 hours after he went missing while swimming at Laboni Point.

Imtiaz Ahmed, a field officer with Sea safe lifeguards, confirmed the recovery. Despite a night-long search by the Fire Service divers, Sea safe lifeguards, Yasser Lifeguard Station(YLS) CXB volunteers, Ahnaf’s whereabouts remained unknown on  morning.

Dolon Acharya, Senior Station Officer of Cox’s Bazar Fire Service, reported that Ahnaf’s body was found at Samiti Para Point. The authorities will hand over the body to the family after completing legal procedures.

Ahnaf, whose full name was Zuhayer Ayman, was the son of Md Shariful Islam of Katnar Para, Bogura Municipality. He had visited the beach with friends on Sunday around 2:30 pm. While two other tourists got trapped in the water at the same time, they were rescued quickly by Sea Safe lifeguards. Ahnaf, however, went missing and could not be located.

Ahnaf’s tragic death has deeply affected his family, as he was the son of Mushfiqur Rahim’s elder brother. This incident underscores the critical need for lifeguards at popular tourist destinations like Cox’s Bazar, where a dedicated lifeguard presence could help ensure the safety of visitors and provide timely assistance in emergencies.
