The National Identity Registration Wing of the Election Commission (EC) has ‘locked’ the National Identity Cards (NIDs) of 10 members of Sheikh family, including deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
A source in the Election Commission confirmed this development to the media on Monday.
Multiple sources wishing to be unnamed said that the NID of the 10 people from the Sheikh family has been locked through a letter.
Sheikh Hasina fled to India on August 5 last year in the face of student and public protests and is still staying there.
The Bangladesh government has also formally requested India to bring Sheikh Hasina back to the country as there is an extradition treaty between India and Bangladesh.
