The Dhaka airport authorities have ended their search for a bomb on a flight from Rome in Italy as no explosive-like device has been found. Following a thorough inspection, officials are now handing over baggage and other items to the passengers.

Group Captain Kamrul Islam, executive director of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, confirmed the development to reporters.

Earlier, police received information from a Pakistani WhatsApp number about the presence of a “37-kg bomb” on the Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight, according to a senior officer of the Airport Armed Police Battalion (APBn) confirmed .

“At 4:37am (Wednesday), our duty officer at the airport, Abdul Hannan (ASP of APBn), received a WhatsApp call from a Pakistani number. The caller claimed that a 37-kg bomb had been placed on the plane.”  However, the identity of the caller remains unknown, the officer said.

As a result of the call, the Biman flight (BG-356) from Rome to Dhaka made an emergency landing at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 9:20am, and shortly afterwards, all passengers and crew were safely evacuated.

The threat triggered heightened security measures across the airport.
