The government signed deals during US tariff reduction negotiations that are “non-disposal” in nature, but this much can be asserted that they do not violate Bangladesh’s interests, said Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Islam on Friday.

Speaking at his residence on the Bailey Road, Shafiqul said no military deal was also signed with Washington during the tariff reduction talks, terming it a “great success” for the Prof Yunus-led government.

The US did not impose any additional conditions on Bangladesh to enjoy the reduced 20% tariff rate, Shafiqul Islam clarified.

President Donald Trump has reduced 35% additional tariff on Bangladeshi imports to 20% as Bangladesh agreed to reduce the trade gap with US. The trade gap will be further reduced in the future, Shafiqul noted.
