Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam on Sunday (September7) warned that no one will be given even the slightest leniency when it comes to ensuring the country’s overall security.

“When the fallen fascist forces see that the nation is moving towards elections and the trial of those involved in the July Uprising is progressing swiftly, they become reckless. They are deploying all their strength to destabilise peace and order. This is no longer merely a law and order issue — it has become a matter of national security. In the interest of the country’s overall security, no concessions will be made,” he said.

Shafiqul made the remarks during a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka.

He further said that the government believes unity among political parties is necessary in the greater interest of the nation.

A meeting was held at the State Guest House Jamuna to review the prevailing law and order situation today, he said.

According to the press secretary, the session discussed the overall security situation and highlighted decisions taken during the meeting.

Ten advisers, including those responsible for home, planning, power, law, shipping, finance, industries, local government and security affairs, were present.

He said the meeting placed strong emphasis on maintaining political unity in the spirit of July, and decided to take tougher measures against sudden processions and other unlawful gatherings.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to holding elections on time, Shafiqul said, “The election will be held in the first half of February. There is no force in the world that can delay it.”

Regarding the recent incident in Rajbari, Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder said, “So far, seven people have been arrested. Among them, at least two are involved with local Awami League politics.”

“Video footage is being reviewed, and police have confirmed that action will be taken against all those involved,” he added.
