Noakhali people have become afraid of worsening floods after getting the sluice gate damaged in Muchhapur of Companiganj.

Some 23 vent regulators of Muchhapur closure in Companyganj upazila of Noakhali were broken due to heavy rains and upstream flows. This has spread panic in Noakhali’s Companiganj, Kabirhat and Feni’s Sonagazi and Daganbhuyan areas.

Deputy Commissioner Dewan Mahbubur Rahman confirmed the matter at 11:15am on Monday and said that the water valve had broken due to the high pressure of the water regulator.

Flood water recedes during low tide but water can now enter the locality during high tide. The engineering team of the army is looking after the matter.

Munshi Amir Faisal, Executive Engineer of the Water Development Board, Noakhali told news media “I have come to know the matter. In fact, a huge amount of water came down through the 23 gates of the regulator. If the gates had not been opened earlier, they would have been broken earlier. We have reported the matter to the higher authorities.”
