Singer Mainul Ahsan Noble has been sent to jail following his arrest in a case filed over alleged abduction and rape of a female student.
On Tuesday (May 20), Noble was produced before a Dhaka court, where Demra Police Station Inspector Murad Hossain (investigating officer) sought his detention.
The defense sought bail, which was opposed by the prosecution. After hearing both sides, Metropolitan Magistrate Ziauddin Ahmed denied bail and ordered Noble to be sent to jail.
Police arrested Noble early Tuesday around 2:00 AM from his residence at Demra Staff Quarters.
According to Demra Police Station OC Md. Mahmudur Rahman, the victim, a student of Eden College, filed a case alleging that Noble abducted her and repeatedly raped her over a period of seven months under false promise of marriage. She has been admitted to One-Stop Crisis Center at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
This is not Noble’s first run-in with the law. In 2023, he was arrested by Detective Branch (DB) of police in a fraud case.
