Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batsman Nurul Hasan Sohan dismissed rumours that the national selectors had allowed him to play in the Global T20 League, saying he opted for the tournament only after being dropped from the national team.

“First of all, I want to make one thing clear — Global T20 was never my first priority,” Nurul said on Wednesday. “It’s not like I was not in the national team because of the Global T20. I was at the camp in Chattogram.”

Nurul clarified that he only considered the franchise tournament after being left out of the squad for the Sri Lanka tour.

“When I was dropped from the Sri Lanka series, I had nothing on my schedule. Rather than sitting idle at home, I thought it would be better to play in the Global T20. That’s when I started thinking about it,” he said.

He insisted that there were no discussions with the selection panel, team management or his domestic franchise Rangpur regarding any clearance.

“There was no such conversation — not with the selectors, not with the team management, not even with Rangpur’s management. These are two separate things,” Nurul said. “Playing for the national team is always a matter of priority. For every player, the national team should come first.”
