TDS Desk:
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Brahmanbaria Sadar Model Police Station, Mozzaffar Hossain, has been withdrawn from his post after a Facebook post appeared to show support for candidates of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD)-backed panel in the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) elections.
The matter was confirmed on Wednesday (10 September) by MM Rokib Ur Reza, Additional Superintendent of Police of Brahmanbaria Sadar Circle. He stated that OC Mozzaffar Hossain had been withdrawn and attached to the police line, and OC Azharul Islam of Nasirnagar Police Station has been assigned in his place.
Earlier, on Tuesday (9 September) morning, a post on OC Mozzaffar Hossain’s Facebook account referred to the DUCSU election, reading: “Best wishes to the meritorious. 21, 17, 08.” The numbers corresponded to the ballot numbers of the Chhatra Dal panel candidates for Vice President (VP), General Secretary (GS), and Assistant General Secretary (AGS).
The post, which appeared to show political support, drew criticism on social media, raising questions about adherence to the government employees’ code of ethics. Under the law, government officials are prohibited from engaging in political activities or publicly showing political support. Although the OC deleted the post within a few hours, the controversy persisted.
Subsequently, OC Mozzaffar Hossain issued a statement on both his personal and the police station’s Facebook accounts, claiming that an attempt was being made to tarnish his reputation by posting political content after his account was hacked.
“My Facebook account was hacked, which led to the political post. I immediately informed my superiors, and a general diary (GD) has been filed regarding the matter.”
