Starting from the fiscal year 2025-26, individual taxpayers in Bangladesh will no longer be allowed to submit income tax returns manually, as online submission is set to become mandatory for all.
According to Ministry of Finance sources, the announcement is expected to be made by Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed during the national budget speech on Monday (June 2).
In the current fiscal year, online tax return submission was made mandatory for all government employees in Dhaka, Narayanganj, and Gazipur districts, as well as for selected private sector employees.
According to the National Board of Revenue (NBR), during that time, around 16 lakh taxpayers submitted their returns online.
Currently, there are approximately 1.15 crore Tax Identification Number (TIN) holders in the country, of whom around 45 lakh submitted tax returns last year.
