Ashraful Islam Joy:
There has been intense tension and anger over the death of a pregnant woman after a cesarean operation at the unauthorized Seba General Hospital in Sirajganj town.
The victim’s family has raised allegations of gross negligence by the hospital authorities. The patient died as the cesarean operation was done by a non-specialist physician. Though the mother seen the face of her baby, she did not live in the earth to see the next sun rise. She met a tragic death due to faulty operation and negligence of the hospital authorities, it is alleged.
But, there is a surprising matter that, the hospital authorities settled the matter by only Tk 65,000 after creating a pressure on the victim’s family.
The victim was identified as Fatema Khatun, 25, wife of Malaysian immigrant Enamul Sarker of Satiantoli village in Sadar upazila and also daughter of Keramot Ali and Momota Khatun of the same area.
According to the victim’s family, Fatema was admitted to the Seba General Hospital at Jogaimorh area in Sirajganj town on July 10 with labour pain.
Despite the normal situation, Dr. Mozaharul Islam forced her to carry a cesarean operation with the aim to realize additional money. At one stage, he performed the operation in which a baby girl was born. After the operation, a disaster struck following the morning.
Fatema’s condition deteriorated rapidly and she died at around 4:00am due to lack of proper treatment.
Victim’s family members claimed that, she died at the hospital due to faulty operation, negligence of the on duty doctors and hospital authorities.
Victim Fatema’s mother Momota Khatun said, “I had nothing to do anything against the hospital authorities due to their muscle power even after death of my daughter for their faulty operation and negligence in duty. I moved from door to door for its fair trial. But no one helped me. Finding no way, I was forced to make a settlement by only Tk 65,000 with the hospital authorities due to their pressure.”
While contacted, Mozaharul Islam admitted about the cesarean operation and said “I am an expert on this context. So, no journalist has right to question me about it.”
Sri Chittaranjan Sarker, Owner of the hospital said, “The matter has already been settled. So, what is the problem of journalists or law enforcers? We do such business after managing all authorities including Civil Surgeon (CS).”
“This is why, nothing will be happened, if you publish any news-report over the incident,” he added.
