TDS Desk:
More than 50 percent of votes have been cast so far at the Curzon Hall, Physical Education Center, and Geology Department polling centers in the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) and hall union elections.
According to the reports, since Tuesday morning (9 September), voters have been standing in long queues at these centers to exercise their franchise. Despite the sweltering heat, students expressed satisfaction at being able to vote smoothly. On average, more than half of the registered voters cast ballots in these three centers.
DUCSU Election Commission member and TSC center returning officer Dr. Nasrin Sultana said, “About 50 percent of the votes have already been cast.”
This year, a record 471 candidates are contesting for 28 positions in the DUCSU elections, including 62 women. Meanwhile, in 18 halls, a total of 1,035 candidates are competing for 13 positions.
For this election, Chhatra Dal, Chhatra Shibir, Bangladesh Ganatantrik Chhatra Parishad (BAGACHAS), and the Chhatra Odhikar Parishad have each fielded separate panels. Left-leaning student organizations are contesting under two panels, while around 10 independent panels—both full and partial—are also in the race.
