The Payra Sea Port in Patuakhali could become a “blight” on the country’s economy, said Planning Adviser Wahiduddin Mahmud on Sunday (March 23).

“It will not be a seaport, let alone a river port,” he told reporters after a meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) at the NEC conference room in the capital’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.

During the Ecnec meeting, a revised project proposal for the first terminal and related facilities of the Payra port was approved. The project’s cost has also been increased to Tk5,228 crore.
