The people of Bangladesh will determine the country’s future, not India, the US, or China, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said.

“Just like everyone was united during the Liberation War to build the country, everyone united and fought in 2024. Our children, the youth, have led every movement in the country from the front,” he added.

Fakhrul made the remarks at a programme, titled “Empowering Bangladesh: Pathways to Leadership, Unity, and Growth”, at the capital’s North South University (NSU) on Saturday (April 19).

“Let us all come together and help Prof Yunus. However, there is no alternative to democracy. Democracy cannot be imposed,” he added.

“Democratic practices are necessary in all areas of nation-building. So much blood was shed, so many mothers’ laps were emptied; the results of this must be good for the country,” the BNP secretary general said.

Acknowledging that there are many problems in the country, Fakhrul said everyone must unite to solve these problems.

“I am very optimistic; we must build our country ourselves,” he added.
