The interim government has decided to cut the price of all types of fuel including octane and petrol. The price of diesel, kerosene, octane and petrol will be reduced from next September. However, the price of petrol and octane will decrease the most.
This information is known from sources of the Energy Department and Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC).
Diesel and kerosene have been sold at the rate of 106.75 taka per litre in the country since last June. On the other hand, octane is selling at Tk 131 and petrol at Tk 127 per litre.
BPC said that due to the reduction in the price of oil in the international market, the price will also be reduced in the domestic market. Also, as per the current formula, the government has also decided to reduce the amount of profit for BPC in the price of fuel oil. This will naturally reduce the price of fuel oil.
Regarding profit cuts, BPC said the government has decided to cut profits to reduce high inflation.
According to BPC sources, octane and petrol prices will decrease more among fuel oils. The price of octane and petrol may come down by Tk 8 to Tk 12 per litre. And the price of diesel and kerosene may decrease from Tk 1.5 to Tk 1.75.
The then Awami League government introduced the automatic price determination system of fuel oil in March. This procedure was launched according to the terms of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) loan.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, refined diesel was sold at USD 91.25 and refined octane at USD 88 per barrel in the international market.
