The government’s five-year plan is centered mostly on rural people, he says
Bogura Correspondent:
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said that money siphoned abroad through corruption will be brought back to the country and redistributed to the public through family and farmer cards.
“The money that has been siphoned abroad through corruption will be brought back to the country and returned to the people through family and farmer cards.
“During the previous authoritarian government’s tenure, corruption led to hundreds of thousands of crores of taka being siphoned out of the country. We want to stop this corruption. This is the people’s money; their money has been siphoned off. With that money, we will introduce family cards and farmer cards, InshaAllah,” he said.
He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a program for distributing family cards among 911 beneficiaries at Shaheed Zia Degree College in Bagbari of Gabtali upazila in Bogura in the afternoon.
The prime minister said the government’s upcoming five-year plan is largely focused on rural populations. “Seventy percent of the country’s population lives in villages; we have taken various plans centered on them,” he said.
Recalling election commitments, the prime minister said: “We had promised the people family cards, farmer cards, and waiver of agricultural loans with interest up to Tk 10,000. Already, agricultural loans, including interest, have been waived. Around 1.2 million farmers across the country have benefited.”
He also said: “Our plan is to gradually move the country forward and change the fate of its people.”
Later, he inaugurated a public rally organized by the district BNP at Altafunnesa playground in Bogura town, the newly constructed building of Bogura Press Club, and the reconstruction work of Baitur Rahman Central Mosque.
