Citing BNP-Jamaat’s role in the recent student movement, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has said that police and common people cannot take part in any killing incident in the country.

“BNP-Jamaat men are responsible for the killing. Jamaat-Shibir men carried out the riot. We are investigating the matter and hope all the truth will come out soon,” Quader said while addressing a press conference at Awami League President Sheikh Hasina’s Dhanmondi political office in Dhaka on Friday.

“Those, who betrayed the nation in 1971, carried out killing in 75 and grenade attacks on 21 August 2004, are BNP-Jamaat men and they went on the same killing spree in 2024,” he said during the press conference.

Claiming that the government has recovered some weapons used in the killing incident, he said that the BNP-Jamaat clique carried out an unprecedented riot that left thousands of Awami League men and members of police injured critically.

“The vested quarter took the street in an intention to oust the Sheikh Hasina-led government from the state power,” Quader, also Road Transport and Bridges Minister said.

Responding to a query about the death toll, he said, “We learned from newspapers that the number may be around two hundred or a little more than that.”
