Police have detained 49 individuals in connection with the vandalism of shops and business establishments in Sylhet and several other cities across the country.

The information was confirmed in a statement on Tuesday by AIG (Media and PR) of the Police Headquarters, Enamul Haque Sagar.

He stated that the arrests were made on Monday in relation to the vandalism incidents that took place in Sylhet and other cities.

Protests erupted in Bangladesh on Monday, with mobs targeting Israeli-linked businesses, such as Bata, KFC and Pizza Hut in Bogra, Sylhet, Cox’s Bazar and other districts, condemning Israeli aggression in Gaza and demanding a product boycott.

In protest against the massacre of Palestinians in Gaza and to demand a boycott of Israeli products, a large mob of students and crowds gathered in Bogra city for a demonstration in the afternoon.

The protest, which began with a march from various educational institutions, culminated at the heart of the city, Satmatha, where demonstrators broke into the Bata showroom, smashing its glass walls.

The protestors, armed with banners, placards and festoons, raised slogans condemning the genocide in Palestine and demanding the boycott of Israeli products.
