Police have returned 363 stolen mobile phones to their rightful owners after recovery. According to the Jhenaidah Cyber Crime Investigation Cell, the phones—lost at various times over the past year—were handed over to their owners, said Cyber Crime Investigation Cell Officer Khalid Hasan on Tuesday.

Additionally, a team from the cell arrested several members of a fraud and hacking gang that operated through digital platforms and uncovered the mysteries of previously unsolved murders.

The cyber cell also recovered Tk 18.42 lakh in response to 82 General Diaries (GDs) filed by bKash and Nagad in Jhenaidah and returned the money to the rightful customers.

Khalid Hasan stated that this special police team has provided IT assistance to 6,852 people across six upazilas in the district. A fraudulent gang had been embezzling money from old-age allowances, widow allowances, and student stipends via bKash, Rocket, Nagad, and Upay by impersonating customer care representatives and hacking OTPs. Members of this gang were arrested, and six mobile phones along with 10 SIM cards were recovered from their possession, he added.

The Cyber Crime Investigation Cell continues its efforts to apprehend criminals involved in various cyber-related offenses in the district.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Finance and Administration) Md. Imran Zakaria told BSS, “Our Cyber Crime Investigation Cell is highly efficient. Due to the close monitoring of senior police officers, the cell has achieved significant success over the past year. We are committed to ensuring quality services for the people.”
