A press conference was held at Paikosha Baza’ar in Kamarkhanda upazila of Sirajganj district on Tuesday protesting to a false case filed over the fire incident at a Chatal (pave-yard of paddy) in the Baza’ar.
The victim’s family in a written statement claimed that, the case filed over the fire incident at the Chatal in Paikosha Baza’ar was intentional and false.
No one from their family was involved in the fire incident that took place on September 7. However, an attempt is being made to harass them socially by including their names in the case in a planned manner.
The complaint stated that, the Chatal owner Abdur Rashid filed a false case out of revenge over a land dispute. Although the dispute was settled earlier through village arbitration, he (the plaintiff) has been trying to occupy the land located in front of the road again. This time, he has filed a false case to instill fear.
The press conference also said that, a businessman named Rezaul had started a business by renting the Chatal. He paid about Tk 3 lakh as a deposit and for electric meter.
Though, the business continued well, the night guard of the Chatal named Sarwar repeatedly threatened him. The night before the incident, he also threatened Rezaul, saying that there would be major damage in the morning. The fire broke out the next day.
The victim’s family claimed that, the real incident would be revealed only after taking the testimonies of various people in the village including the tenant Rezaul Karim and the night guard Sarwar.
They urged the administration to conduct a fair investigation into the incident and take legal action against the conspirators. They also drew attention of the media personnel to ensure justice through their investigations.
