Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Mohammad Abdul Momen confirmed on Sunday that the investigation into a series of corruption allegations against star cricketer Shakib Al Hasan is currently ongoing.

Speaking to reporters during an Eid greeting exchange event, the ACC chief said, “The inquiry is still in progress. We’ll have clarity once the investigation concludes.”

The remarks came in response to questions from journalists regarding recent developments in the high-profile case involving Shakib, who previously had ties with the ACC as part of its anti-corruption awareness campaigns.

Shakib, once celebrated not just for his cricketing prowess but also for advocating against corruption, has found himself embroiled in a series of serious allegations. These include involvement in a stock market scam, illegal gambling activities, gold smuggling, embezzlement from crab traders, irregularities in cricket, and failing to disclose asset information in his electoral affidavit.

In 2018, Shakib was appointed as a brand ambassador for the ACC and helped launch its complaint hotline, 106. However, after the allegations surfaced, the ACC distanced itself, formally ending his role in 2022.

Although the commission has yet to issue a formal statement on the findings, Sunday’s comments by the chairman suggest that the probe remains active and that further updates will depend on the outcomes of the inquiry.
