The leaders and activists of the Student Movement against Discrimination staged demonstrations at the Jamuna Bridge West Roundabout in Sirajganj to protest the terrorist attack by Awami League leaders and activists on NCP (Nationalist Convention Party) leaders in Gopalganj.
They also staged sit-in programme started at 6:30 pm on Wednesday (July 16, 2025) under the banner of the organization. The protest programme lasted for about 30 minutes, which ended around 7:00 pm.
During the protest, the protesters filled the roads with slogans like “We want justice for the Gopalganj attack”, “We want safe politics”, and “Student community to be united against oppression”.
At the same time, the organization’s Sirajganj district convener, Sajib Sarkar, said, “The barbaric attack on NCP leaders in Gopalganj is a naked interference in democracy and freedom of expression. We strongly protest against it and demand arrest and punishment to the culprits.
Senior chief organizer Sejan Sardar said, “Such an attempt to suppress opposition views can never be accepted in a democratic country. The student community will not remain silent any longer.”
Sadar Upazila convener, Yasir Arafat Ishan, said, “This attack is not only on NCP, it is an attack on the future politics of the country. We call on all the youth of the country to unite.”
Md. Asad, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jamuna Bridge Western Police Station said, “The protest programmes were held peacefully. We were on the ground to maintain law and order. No untoward incident occurred.”
It is worth noting that, protest programmes are being held in various parts of the country in response to the terrorist attack on NCP leaders in Gopalganj. In continuation of that, the leaders and activists of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement also held that programmes in Sirajganj.
