A protest rally was held at Muladuli railway station in Ishwardi upazila of Pabna district on Saturday (July 26) demanding stoppage of intercity trains at the station.
They also formed a human chain to press home their demands.
Hundreds of people from different areas in Ishwardi upazila of Pabna district took part in the demonstrations with Syed Chanchal Mahmud, President of Pathak, Shilpa, Sahitya O Samajik Parishad in the chair.
Convener of Muladuli Union BNP Shahnaz Parvin Mahfuza, Principal of Muladuli College Enamul Haque Pathan, Vice-President of Bangladesh Krishak Samity and national medalist farmer Siddiqur Rahman Moyez, General Secretary of the Association and national medalist farmer Abdul Jalil Kitab Mandal, President of Muladuli Raw Material Warehouse Association Abdur Razzak, General Secretary Babu Dewan, Advisor of Pathak, Shilpa, Sahitya O Samajik Parishad Firozul Haque, writer Abdul Latif Joaddar, and Member Secretary of Baraigram Swechchhasebak Dal Shahin Khalifa among others were also present in the event.
The speakers said that, Muladuli railway station has been neglected for a long time. At least one intercity train stop must be ensured for the convenience of the local people. Otherwise, they will go for tougher movement in future to press home their demand.
When asked about this, Pakshi Divisional Transport Officer of the Bangladesh Railway Hasina Khatun said, I have heard that there has been a protest demanding the stoppage of intercity trains at Muladuli railway station. However, no one has officially applied to the railways so far. If the application is received, the authorities will take the matter into consideration.
But, question has raised that as the train service has been provided by the government for public interest, why there is a need of special application? She did not reply of the query?
