Entertainment Desk:
Popular theatre troupe Prachyanat will stage its much-acclaimed production “Pulsiraat” at the Nilima Ibrahim Auditorium of Bangladesh Mahila Samity in the capital on Satuday after a long hiatus.
“Pulsiraat” is an adaptation of the famous novel “Men in the Sun” by Palestinian writer Ghassan Khanafani. Translated by Masumul Alam and scripted by Monirul Islam, Kazi Toufiqul Islam Emon has directed the play.
The story of the drama is about three Palestinian refugees named –Abu Kayes, Asad and Marwan, seeking to travel from the refugee camps in Iraq to Kuwait where they hope to find work as labourers in the oil boom. The three men each arrange with a clerk at a local store to be smuggled to Kuwait by a driver named Abul Khaijuran. The men are treated gruffly and are humiliated by the process.
Once they finally arrange for travel, they are forced to ride in the back of the truck across the desert on their way to Kuwait. At several checkpoints, the men hide in a large, empty, water tank in the stifling mid-day heat as the driver arranges paperwork to get through. Thus, the story of “Pulsirat” goes forward on.
The probable cast of the play includes actors Azad Abul Kalam, Shahriar Sajeeb, Monirul Islam Rubel, Saiful Islam Journal and Chetona Rahman have played prominent roles in the play.
