Qamrul, Palak among 5 arrested in new cases

Five individuals, including former food minister Advocate Qamrul Islam and former state minister for telecommunications and information technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak, have been shown arrested in separate cases in connection with the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement filed under various police stations in Dhaka.

The other accused are former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun and Jubo League leaders Nazrul Islam Kabiraj and Abul Hossain.

The accused were brought to the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court at around 9am on Wednesday from prison.

Investigating officers from the respective police stations then sought court approval to officially show their arrests in the cases. Magistrate Ziadur Rahman granted the applications.

According to police reports, Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun was shown arrested in a murder case involving Md Sabbir Howlader under Jatrabari Police Station.

Meanwhile, Qamrul Islam, Abul Hossain, and Nazrul Islam Kabiraj were shown arrested in another murder case filed under Lalbagh Police Station.

Abdullah Al-Mamun was also linked to a murder case under Bhashantek Police Station, while Zunaid Ahmed Palak was shown arrested in a cyber security law case under Kafrul Police Station.
