Hours after the detention of the three coordinators of the quota reform movement, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said that they were being kept in custody for their own security.

“We will interrogate the three coordinators to find out who wants to attack them, and then we will undertake further steps in this regard,” the home minister said in response to a question while speaking to reporters at Narayanganj District Police Superintendent’s office on Saturday.

Earlier in the day, Kamal visited many government and nongovernment establishments damaged during the recent quota reform movement.

Three coordinators of the quota reform movement – Nahid Islam, Asif Mahmud and Abu Baker Majumdar- were picked up by plainclothes law enforcers last night while they were undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dhaka.

A group of plainclothes law enforcers picked them around 4:30 pm, Hasnat Abdullah, also one of the coordinators of the student movement, told the media around 9:45 pm on Friday.

About the country’s overall situation, he said a vested group is engaged in misleading people by dishing out rumours using social media.

Regarding the quota reformists’ fresh 8-point demand, he said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will gradually fulfill the demands after assessing rationality.
