At least 750 persons including former Parliament Member for Sirajganj-5 constituency (Belkuchi-Chowhali) and Belkuchi upazila Awami League President Abdul Momin Mandal, his brother Abdul Alim Mandal and Belkuchi Municipality Mayor Sazzadul Haque Reza were sued in a case on Monday night in connection with the killing of college student Shihab Hossain during the Quata Reform Movement.
Among the accused, the names of 33 persons were mentioned, while rest others were made accused as unnamed.
Enayetpur Thana Awami League President Ahmad Mostafa Khan Bachchu, Senior Vice-President Rashedul Islam Siraj, General Secretary Azgar Ali BSC, Soudia Chandpur Union Parishad Chairman Jahangir Alam Zahid, Belkuchi Upazila Parishad Chairman Engineer Aminul Islam, Belkuchi Upazila Chhatra League President Rocky, Chowhali Upazila Awami League President Taz Uddin, Joint Secretary Babul Akhter and Organizing Secretary Fazlur Rahman Chunnu Talukdar are also mentionable among the identified accused.
Solaiman Hossain, Member of Swechchhasebok Dal on behalf of Shihab’s family filed the case with Enayetpur police station in this connection on Monday night.
Md. Hasibullah, Officer-in-Charge of Enayetpur police station confirmed the matter to The Daily Sky on Tuesday morning and said, “We have taken the case as Ezahar or First Information Report (FIR).
Shihab Hossain, 19, who was killed during the Quota Reform Movement was HSC student of Commerce Department in Sirajganj Government College and also son of Shafi Mian of Madhobpur village in Belkuchi upazila of the district.
It was mentioned in the application of the case that, an anti-discrimination procession in collaboration with students and general public was brought out from in front of Khawaja Yunus Ali Medical College and Hospital under Enayetpur police station on August 4.
As the procession reached in front of Al-Hera Market, the accused led by former MP Abdul Momin Mandal along with several arms including pistol, revolver, cocktail, iron rod and other lethal weapons attacked the procession chanting the slogan of Joy Bangla and opened fire indiscriminately.
In the incident, many people including Shihab Hossain sustained bullet injuries. Of them, Shihab was taken to Enayetpur Khawaja Yunus Ali Medical College and Hospital in critical condition, where the on duty doctors declared him dead.
The plaintiff Solaiman told The Daily Sky that, “The demonstrators were attacked under the leadership of former Parliament Member Abdul Momin Mandal with a view to destroy the movement.”
“Shihab was killed in the firing. This is why, I filed the case as a conscious citizen with the permission of Shihab’s family,” he added.
