Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-12 members in a drive on Saturday night arrested two persons along with a touchstone statue from Moheshpur village in Ullapara upazila of Sirajganj district.

The arrestees are: Amirul Islam, 45, son of late Shafiz Uddin of Shrikrisnapur village and Shahin Alam, 30, son of Almas Ali of Naogaon Modyapara village in Tarash upazila of the district.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of RAB-12 conducted the drive and recovered the statue weight about 31.540kg. During the period, the law enforcers detained the duo in connection with the incident.

In the primary interrogation, the arrestees confessed to the law enforcers that they had been involved with the smuggling of such statues to abroad for long, Dipanker Ghos, Additional Superintendent of Police and also company commander of RAB-12 confirmed the matter to the media on Sunday through a press release.

A case was lodged the Ullapara Model Police station in this connection.
