A discussion meeting was held at the Auditorium of Sirajganj District Shilpakala Academy on Sunday (May 25) marking to the 126th birth anniversary of the National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.
Sirajganj Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Nazrul Islam attended the event as chief guest. The theme of the event was “Mass-uprising of the ‘24 is the legacy of Kazi Nazrul”.
Deputy Director of the Local Government Department Mohammad Kamrul Islam spoke as the special guest at the event. BNP Central Executive Committee member and District BNP General Secretary Saidur Rahman Bachchu and District Jamaat-e-Islami General Secretary Maolana Zahidul Islam among others were also present. The Head of Bengali (Bangla) Department in Sirajganj Government College A. H. M. Jahangir Alam presented an analytical article as the main discussant.
The program was presided over by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Ganapati Roy.
The speakers in their speeches with deep respect recalled the role of Kazi Nazrul Islam in literature, struggle and social revolution. Especially in the context of the 24th mass uprising, the discussion on Nazrul’s role and legacy was very relevant and time befitting.
After the discussion, a pleasant cultural program was also held, where local artists recited poetries and performed Nazrul Sangeet and dances. At the end of the program, the audience and listeners understood the poet’s spirit and inspiration in a new way. A large number of people including various educational institutions, cultural organizations, writers, journalists, administrative officials of the district were also present at the programme. This arrangement by the district administration was widely appreciated by people from all walks of life.
