Law Adviser Professor Dr. Asif Nazrul has announced that the referendum law will be passed within the next three to four working days.

He made the statement at a press conference held at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka on Thursday (November 20).

He said that the law will be enacted very quickly, likely within this week, adding, “It should be done in the next three or four working days.” Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam was also present at the briefing.

The Law Adviser added that the Adviser Council has given final approval for the separate Supreme Court Secretariat to ensure judicial independence. This secretariat will oversee all responsibilities of lower court judges, preventing government control over them. Once the secretariat is formed, it will become fully operational.

Regarding those sentenced to death for the brutal killings during the July uprising, including Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, the Law Adviser said the interim government is making maximum efforts to bring them back.

He added, “The government is considering approaching the International Criminal Court to return Sheikh Hasina and Kamal. Letters are being sent to India requesting their return. India should comply and respect the people of Bangladesh’s demand for justice.”
