Reject black money users in election: ACC chairman

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Abdul Momen has urged voters to reject candidates who will use black money in the upcoming national election.

Speaking to journalists at the ACC headquarters in the capital’s Segunbagicha on Monday (August 25), he cautioned that elections often lead to increased spending, including attempts to buy votes.

“When the use of money rises, there are two sides — demand and supply. It is the supply side we must stop. Banks have a role here, and so do we at the ACC. We will try to keep it under control as much as possible,” he said.

Momen also warned that a rise in illegal money circulation could eventually trigger inflation.

Calling for vigilance against false asset declarations by candidates, he urged the media to share any evidence of concealed information with the ACC, as scrutiny time after affidavits are submitted is limited.

The ACC chief further encouraged citizens to raise their voices under the slogan: “We do not want corrupt MP candidates.”

He added that the government is committed to ensuring a fair election and expressed confidence that the polls would be held on schedule.
