Agitating people in combination of public-students, BNP, Jubo Dal and their front organizations staged demonstrations in Raiganj Upazila Parishad premises on Monday demanding removal of Dhamainagor Union Parishad Chairman Raisul Islam Sumon, also son of former Awami League leader and Parliament Member late Ishak Hossain Talukder.
The demonstrators also submitted a memorandum to the UNO placing one point demand of his removal. They also brought out a procession that marched the main streets in the upazila headquarters.
During a protest rally, the speakers said, chairmen of eight unions in Raiganj upazila of Sirajganj district were removed after fall of the fascist Awami League government on August 5. But, Dhamainagor Union Parishad Chairman Raisul Islam Sumon alias Sumon Talukder, who gained the chairman post through Awami League government’s dramatic election and blessing of his slain father Awami League leader Ishak Hossain Talukder, has been remained at his position still now applying his muscle power and engaged in various conspiracies in collaboration with Awami ghosts. As a result, it is feared that he and his associates may create further anarchy in the country.
The protesters also said, if this chairman is not removed now, it will be a betrayal of the blood of hundreds of martyrs of July and August.
They urged the authorities concerned to take immediate steps to fire the chairman from his post as soon as possible.
It is to be mentioned that, the demonstrators gathered at the upazila parishad premises at around 11:00am and continued their programmes for about two hours.
The programme was presided over by Borhan Uddin, Convener of Poura Jubo Dal in Raiganj, while upazila Jubo Dal’s Organizing Secretary Sipar Al Hasan, Sechchhasebok Dal Convener Mokaddes Hossain Sohan, Senior Joint Convener Eskendar Mirza Jewel and Jahidul Islam Jahid among others spoke on the occasion.
