SDE Milu serving at same station for six yrs

How much honey at the Sirajganj office of Roads and Highways Department (?) such question has intensified around a Sub-Divisional Engineer (SDE), who has been serving at the same office for about six years showing thumb to the government service rules.

It has grown discussion and criticism among the officials of the department.

The much talked and fortunate officer is Md. Jahidur Rahman Milu, Sub-Divisional Engineer (SDE) of the Roads and Highways Department, Roads Division in Sirajganj.

There is hearsay that, Milu has been kept at the same office for long time despite the government service rule as he is able to carry uninterrupted commission trade and bribery as he has a good relationship and dealing efficiency with some unscrupulous and marked contractors.

Milu is famous for smoothly handling contractors and commission trade around the office.

There is an allegation that, Executive Engineer (EE) of the office use Milu’s excellent calibers on bribery and commission trade as he has a good Introduction and relation with some unscrupulous contractors, local political leaders and cadres, who have been involved with various project works in the department in many ways. He has become able to develop the self introduction due to staying at the same office for long, insiders said.

They further said, several types of substandard construction works of the department get legality on the blessing of Milu’s negotiation skill. That is why, Milu gets highly dominance to the Executive Engineer (current and previous).

Thus, he has successfully established supremacy at the office with the blessing of some top officials of the head office, insiders claimed.

Seeking anonymity, a senior officer of the Roads and Highways Department in Sirajganj said, Milu has amassed crores of taka by bribery and commission trade in the last five to six years grabbing chair of SDE at the Roads and Highways Department’s Sirajganj Office. He joined at the office in the last of 2020. Since then, he has been serving in the same office by establishing illegal supremacy. Almost all the concerned contractors are compelled to pay bribes as well as commission to him as per his demand and instructions. Otherwise, no bill is released from the office. Not only that, there are allegations of harassing female staffs of the office against Milu. But, no one of the sufferers or victims (both contractors and female staffs) dares to open mouth against him in fear of harassment or losing jobs or cancelling license.

Due to Milu’s arbitrariness, many contractors in some cases get scope to withdraw bills after carrying substandard works or even without work by submitting fake documents, said some honest contractors on condition of anonymity.

They further said, no action was taken against Milu and his cohorts even after submitting several verbal complaints to the high-ups.

When this journalist tried to contact to the officer- Jahidur Rahman Milu over cell phone, he declined to make any comment in this regard asking to meet with him physically while open the office after Eid festival.
