BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has called the closure of several factories, resulting in thousands of unemployed workers, a “wrong decision” by the interim government.
During a press conference at BNP’s central office in the capital’s Nayapaltan on Wednesday (April 30), he claimed many workers would not have lost their jobs if these factories had been kept operational with administrators.
“About 71 leaders and activists from Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal, the labour wing of BNP, were killed during the July mass uprising. Thirty rickshaw pullers and many other floating workers were also killed,” Rizvi said.
“Many are unwilling to acknowledge the sacrifices made by the working class,” he added.
The BNP senior joint secretary general claimed working people’s incomes are decreasing while the prices of essential commodities are rising, making their lives very difficult.
During the press conference, it was announced that a rally demanding workers’ rights will be held tomorrow at 2pm in front of BNP’s central office in Nayapaltan.
BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman will attend the rally virtually as the chief guest.
The BNP said the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has already been informed about the rally.
The Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal is set to present various demands, including workers’ rights, and will call for a quick national parliamentary election in tomorrow’s rally.
