A total of, 475 people were killed and 815 injured in 452 road accidents in the country in October, 2024.
It was said in a report signed by Mozammel Haque Chowdhury, Secretary General of Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity on Saturday.
During this period, 76 people were killed and 24 others injured in 63 railway accidents. Also, 24 people were killed, 36 injured and nine remained missing in 19 waterway accidents around the country.
According to the report, in October, 138 motorcycle accidents resulted in 163 deaths and 239 injuries. This accounted for 30.53 percent of total accidents, 34.31 percent of total deaths, and 29.32 percent of total injuries.
Altogether, there were 534 accidents on road, rail, and waterways in October, resulting in 575 deaths and 875 injuries, said BJKS in the report released every month based on media reports.
The highest percentage – 38.29 percent — of road crashes took place on national highways, 30.39 percent on regional highways, and 24.62 percent on feeder roads, read the report.
According to BJKS, Bangladesh saw 493 road accidents in September, leaving 498 people dead and 978 injured.
At least 40 railway accidents claimed the lives of 37 people and left four injured. Besides, 14 accidents on waterways left 19 people dead, 56 injured, and 47 missing.
