The construction of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP) is almost complete. The project officials said that the power plant will be put into operation on a trial basis in October this year.

They said that the work of the first unit of the Rooppur nuclear power plant is at the final stage. Preparations for commercial power generation from the first unit in 2025 are in the final stages. Later, the second unit will go into production next year in 2026.

The people concerned also said that the electricity that will be required during the launch of this project will be taken from the Electricity Development Board.

When asked about the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, Science and Technology Minister Architect Yeafesh Osman told the media that we are moving towards the commissioning of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant. The first unit will be commissioned on a trial basis in October.

The country’s first nuclear power plant is being built at Rooppur in Ishwardi of Pabna with the technical and financial support of Russia. This project is being implemented by the country’s State Atomic Energy Corporation (ROSATOM). The Russian-invented 3G (+) VVER 1200 reactor is installed in this project. Russia will also supply fuel for the project. In October last year, Bangladesh received uranium as fuel for the Rooppur nuclear power plant.

Russia is also developing and training experts to operate this power plant. 5-6 years after the launch of the project, it will be managed by Russian experts along with Bangladeshi experts. Later, experts from Bangladesh will take over the responsibility of managing the power plant, said the project officials.
