Desk Report:

Rooppur nuclear power plant has become a new monument of Bangladesh’s capability. The megastructure is getting ready for power generation. The first unit of this power plant with a production capacity of 1,200 MW is going to be launched by the end of this year. The second unit will be commissioned by 2025. That is to say, Rooppur nuclear power plant capable of producing 2,400 megawatts of electricity is going to be officially fully operational within the stipulated time.

Experts say that Bangladesh is going to achieve a new milestone by implementing this complex project in a short time.

Russia has also given full assurance to complete the project within the stipulated time and hand over it to Bangladesh. In September 2023, the process of producing nuclear fuel uranium began. The assembly of 168 uranium has reached the project area of Rooppur in 7 stages under the supervision of the Russian state nuclear agency Rosatom. Preparations for thorough testing and fuel loading are now underway.

Rosatom DG Alexey Likhachev said that one of the biggest megaprojects in Bangladesh is now on the verge of success. The arrival of nuclear fuel in the project area means that it is time for final preparations for a large-scale start-up program. At least 1500 tests will be carried out on the fine machinery before commissioning. So far all challenges have been successfully overcome.

Science and Technology Minister Architect Yafes Osman said that generating electricity with such technology is a very difficult task. We have entered the age of nuclear power. Fuel running means we have achieved it. The first unit will be started in 2024 and by 2025, the entire center will be operational.

According to nuclear experts, Bangladesh is going to set a new record in the construction of nuclear power plants in such a short period of time. Through this, the country is stepping into a new phase of capacity.

According to, Dhaka University nuclear engineering department teacher professor Dr. Shafiqul Islam, developing countries like Bangladesh are gaining the ability to run so much high-tech technology. It will be discussed in the world. Many countries will follow us. It will be a new milestone for a country like ours.
