A man died after being bitten by a Russell’s Viper in Kushtia.

He was rushed to the Kushtia General Hospital on Wednesday morning (May 28), where he breathed his last.

The deceased, Kamruzzaman Pramanik, 50, a farmer from Jagannathpur union in Kumarkhali, was clearing a banana grove around 11am when he was bitten by a Russell’s viper, his nephew said.

Kamruzzaman managed to kill the snake immediately, but succumbed to the venom 30 minutes after arriving at the hospital.

Residential Medical Officer (RMO) Dr Hossain Imam told The Business Standard that both victims passed away while undergoing treatment at Kushtia General Hospital.

“One of the deaths was caused by a bite from a Russell’s viper. However, the species of snake responsible for another death could not be confirmed,” he added.
