The film “Saba” has been selected for the competition section of the 20th Osaka Asian Film Festival in Japan. Director Maksud Hossain shared, “There will be three screenings of the film in Osaka. I will also be attending the festival.” The festival is set to begin on March 14 and will run until March 23.
Maksud Hossain recently returned to the country after participating in the Berlinale Talents programme at the Berlin International Film Festival. Now, he is preparing to attend the festival in Japan.
The director further revealed, “Along with the screening of ‘Saba’, a symposium or special discussion has been arranged featuring me. The discussion will cover various aspects of my career in cinema, my journey into filmmaking, and the process of making ‘Saba’, among other topics related to filmmaking.”
Maksud also announced the film’s release plans, stating that they aim to bring “Saba” to theaters in June.
“Last year, we initially planned to release the film, but due to circumstances, we had to postpone it. We considered releasing it between the two Eid festivals, but that may not be possible either. Now, we are looking at the last week of June or the first week of July for the film’s release,” he said.
At the heart of “Saba’s” story is a road accident that occurred two decades ago, leaving a 12-year-old girl and her mother injured.
The girl suffers psychological trauma from the incident, while her mother is left confined to a wheelchair. The narrative unfolds around the aftermath of the accident and its impact on their lives.
Veteran actress Rokeya Prachy portrays the mother, while Mehazabien Chowdhury plays the daughter. Another significant role in the film is played by Mostafa Monwar.
