Lock hangs on door

Allegation has been surfaced that officials including director of ‘Sadik Jankalyan Samity’, also a local non-government organization (NGO), established centering the Judge Court and Registry Office in Satkhira, have fled hanging the lock on its door after plundering crores of taka from the beneficiaries.

Sources said that, Abdul Hamid, Director of the organization was the mastermind of this crime. He and his associates are now absconding.

Locals complained that, the main mastermind Abdul Hamid, also son of late Madar Dhali of Atapur village in Debhata upazila of the district spread out the fraud trap after renting the ground floor of a building owned by Reshma Khatun, adjacent to the Satkhira Judge Court.

It is known that this fraudulent group has collected crores of taka from about three hundred people in the area. Abdul Hamid and his manager Abdur Razzak played main role in collecting the most members. To attract the people attention, they also used beautiful women as their employees, who were engaged in convincing the parties.

Since the opening of the office in mid-2020, Sadik Janakalyan Samity has been targeting Satkhira court officials, lawyers, legal assistants and registry office employees to motivate customers to open ‘DPS’, ‘FDR’ and ‘Sanchoy Patra’ by offering them high dividends and easy loans. Although they paid dividends regularly in the beginning, their activities gradually stopped after January 2025. After August 5, the office was suddenly locked – that’s when the story of this association’s fraud of crores of taka came to light.

On condition of anonymity, an assistant of a lawyer said that, “I opened FDR of Tk 12 lakh. Initially, I received some dividends, but later the officials have disappeared. Their phones are switched off.”

Retired court clerk Abdul Mukit said, “They stopped communication from January 2024. Now the office is locked. I have necessary documents to lodge case in this regard.”

Satkhira Sadar Cooperative Office official Md. Shariful Islam said, it is not known whether there was any authorized organization named Sadik Janakalyan Samity.
