Satkhira’s Bhomra, whic is one of the main land ports in the southwest, has now been officially recognized as a ‘Customs House’.

The Satkhira Bhomra C & F Association has expressed its gratitude to the government’s Ministry of Finance, National Board of Revenue (NBR), Customs Department and local administration.

The association leaders hope that, if the government’s initiative continues, Bhomra will soon become the main trade center of the southwest and will play an important role in national revenue.

Currently, various goods including food products, construction materials, clothing, cosmetics and other things are imported from India through Bhomra land port. On the other hand, agricultural products, fish and industrial products are being exported to abroad from Bangladesh.

The announcement was made as per the Ministry of Finance’s memorandum number 08.00.0000.027.28.043.19.97, dated October 14,  2025.

The Bhomra Customs Clearing and Forwarding (C & F) Agents Association has termed this initiative of the government as a ‘historical milestone’.

The organization’s President Md. Abu Hasan and General Secretary Md. Abu Musa in a joint statement said, “Declaring Bhomra as a customs house will increase the trade potential of this region manifolds. This is a far-sighted and timely decision of the government, which we wholeheartedly welcome.”

As a result of being recognized as a ‘customs house’, from now on, complete revenue administration, customs assessment, verification of import-export documents and trade management activities can be completed locally here. This will reduce time and cost, and administrative complexity will be reduced, which will give great relief to the businessmen, insiders said.
