Section 144 has been imposed in the three-kilometre area surrounding the Tongi Ijtema ground in Gazipur.
This was informed in a letter signed by Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) Commissioner Dr. Nazmul Karim Khan on Wednesday (December 18) afternoon.
The letter states that by virtue of the powers conferred on the Police Commissioner under Sections 30 and 31 of the Gazipur Metropolitan Police Act 2018, the following orders will be in force in the GMP area, including the Bishwa Ijtema ground and its surrounding 3 (three) kilometres, from 2:00 pm on 8 December 2024 until further orders.
The letter states that public entry to the Bishwa Ijtema grounds is banned, moreover, two or more people will not be allowed to move around or gather or hold processions within a 3-kilometre area surrounding the Ijtema grounds until further notice and carrying any type of weapons, knives, sticks, explosives or any such substance is prohibited and no loudspeakers or loud noises will be allowed.
The letter also states that appropriate legal action will be taken against those who violate the law.
Regarding this, GMP Commissioner Dr. Nazmul Karim Khan said that Section 144 has been imposed on the metropolitan area.
