Popular Bangladeshi film actor Shabnoor has expressed shock and disappointment after raw, unfinished footage from her film “Rongona” surfaced on YouTube without her consent.
The actor, who has been living in Sydney for more than a decade, returned to Dhaka in 2023 to resume work. She shot several days for “Rongona”, directed by Arafat Hossain, before leaving for Australia due to family reasons. The second phase of filming never commenced, and neither Shabnur nor the director had any knowledge of the footage being released.
Shabnoor said the incident was unprecedented in her three-decade career.
“Nothing like this has ever happened to me. Releasing footage without an artist’s permission is unethical and deeply unprofessional. It is disrespectful to the artist and to the craft,” she said.
Shabnoor made her debut in Ehtesham’s “Chandni Raat” in 1993 and went on to star in more than 150 films, earning a reputation for versatility and strong screen presence. Though she became irregular due to family commitments and frequent travel to Australia, she remains one of the most influential figures in Dhallywood. Many contemporary actors cite her as an inspiration.
Born Kazi Sharmin Nahid Nupur in Jashore’s Sharsha upazila in 1979, the actress began acting at 14 and dominated mainstream cinema for over 15 years. She currently lives in Sydney with her son.
