The investigation report in the share market manipulation, fraud, and money laundering case against former Bangladesh cricket captain and ex-MP Shakib Al Hasan and 15 others is now scheduled for submission on November 26 by a Dhaka court.
The hearing, set for Sunday at the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Foyez, could not proceed as the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) did not submit the investigation report. The judge has now fixed a new date.
Other accused include Abul Khair, Deputy Registrar of the Department of Cooperatives, his wife Kazi Sadiya Hasan, Abul Kalam Madbor, Konika Afroze, Mohammad Bashar, Sajed Madbor, Aleya Begum, Kazi Fuad Hasan, Kazi Farid Hasan, Shirin Akter, Javed A. Matin, Zahed Kamal, Humayun Kabir, and Tanvir Nizam.
The case was filed on June 17 by ACC Assistant Director Sazzad Hossain.
According to the case, the accused allegedly manipulated the stock market through illegal transactions, fraudulent trading, gambling, and speculative activities, artificially inflating share prices and causing huge losses to ordinary investors.
A total of Tk 256.97 crore was allegedly embezzled, classified as “proceeds of crime.” Abul Khair (Hiru), with help from his wife, reportedly concealed Tk 29.94 crore and transferred it to various accounts. Suspicious transactions totaling Tk 542.31 crore were also found in 17 bank accounts under his name.
Shakib Al Hasan is alleged to have invested in shares of Paramount Insurance Ltd., Crystal Insurance Ltd., and Sonali Papers Ltd., manipulated by Abul Khair. He is accused of aiding market manipulation, enabling the embezzlement of Tk 2.95 crore from ordinary investors under the guise of realized capital gains.
